St. Augustine in late July requires many indoor stops with cold beverages. Damn it’s hot!! We may not have found the Fountain of Youth but we are rolling out slightly pickled… (Mrs. Jones believes the Fountain of Youth has been the coconuts hanging above the heads of the explorers all along anyway.).

Popped into our RV spot at KOA St. Augustine Beach, flipped on the LP switch for a warm shower and blew our LP regulator. You’ll know when this happens – it sounds like a really really serious gas leak. Hooray for remembering the emergency shut off button!! Replacing it looks like a visit from the RV guy.

St. Augustine has an awesome outdoor ampitheater at Anastasia State Park. It turns out Fritz and the Tantrums and Young the Giant were playing so we had a decision to make. After consulting our son, who recommended going if the tickets were less than $18.00, we skipped the concert and ended up at a killer BBQ and bourbon bar – right up our alley!

First stop in the really awesome, walkable and historic city was Prohibition Kitchen. Great food, music, and cocktails! We were sweaty and thankful Prohibition had ended…

As you enjoy this salty ass town you may have to dodge pirates – but it is Florida and it is the real deal!

Mrs. Jones loves the dirty South for all of it’s sweat and passion… we’ll put our Southern authors up against the greatest anywhere! (Would love to have credit for Steinbeck but have to give him to the West) The South delivers just the right amount of hardship and suffering to bring out the genius!

Next stop MOJO Old City BBQ for the best Kentucky burnt ends ever!! Not to mention a bar loaded with just the right amount of bourbon options to wash down your BBQ.

Last stop, Mrs. Jones loves old graveyards to wander and read… so much history is told by those headstones and memorials! St. Augustine’s National Cemetery is one of the smallest in the country, and lays to rest casualties of the Seminole Indian wars… A lovely, scenic, sunset walk to this small memorial.

It turns out that the wives of these soldiers didn’t necessarily require much detail of their existence during that place in time. Hopefully Mrs. Jones will get at least a date of birth or a last name or something?

One shot of whiskey and off to Savannah!! What a beautiful Southern sky to keep it real!
